- What happens if I need to be hospitalized?
If you need to be hospitalized, we will refer you to a hospital specialist called a “Hospitalist”, who will manage your in-hospital care and then discharge you back to Hope Health. Hospitalists are Physicians, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants who specialize in hospital care and are hired by the hospital to manage the patients in the hospital.
- What are Family Nurse Practitioners?
Family Nurse Practitioners (FNP) are registered nurses with Master's Degrees and clinical training in family practice. They are recognized throughout the country as integral members of the primary care provider group. FNPs are licensed to assess and treat acute and chronic health care problems, prescribe medications, and order and interpret diagnostic studies. In Maine and twelve other states, Nurse Practitioners may practice independently after two years supervision with an MD or an experienced Nurse Practitioner. In Maine, FNPs are licensed by the Maine Board of Nursing and are licensed primary care providers.
- Can an FNP be my Primary Care Provider on my Insurance card?
Yes, FNPs can be your designated Primary Care Provider and be listed on your insurance card. Your insurance coverage will not differ if you have an FNP or MD.
- Can I just walk-in without an appointment?
No, you will need to call first: 236-2201. As we have gotten busier we can no longer accommodate walk-in business. However, we are trying to keep some appointments open every day for sudden medical needs. Please call as soon as you know you need to be seen and we will do our best work you in.
- Do you use Complementary Medicine?
Yes. Though we approach most routine health care issues from a traditional “western” perspective, we believe that complementary medicine plays an important role in overall health. Where appropriate, we integrate alternative therapies such as homeopathic and herbal remedies into our health care plans. Brien uses gentle manipulation and cranio-sacral therapy for painful muscle and joint issues and we will refer to alternative therapists in the area. Most importantly, we respect our patient’s belief in alternative healing methods and will work with them to meet their needs.
- How do I know if Hope Health is the right practice for me?
Hope Health provides care to people of all ages with simple and complex health care needs: Please see our "services" page on this website. We enjoy working with families and take a team approach to health care. Our style of health care delivery works well with people who want to participate in their own health care plan. If you have multiple complex health care needs and may require frequent hospitalization, Hope Health may not be the right practice for you. In that case, we would recommend one of the Internal Medicine practices in the area. If you are still not sure, please call our office at 207-236-2201 to schedule an appointment with one of our providers to discuss your health care needs.
